Opened on June 16, 1950, it has hosted World Cup games that year and some matches from the 2014 World Cup, including the grand final. It also hosted the 2013 Confederations Cup games, the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2007 Pan American Games and, more recently, the Olympic Games in 2016 and the Copa America in 2019. Scenario of the most important derbies of Brazilian football, Maracanã has also received historical moments of international football. Monumental facts, such as the thousandth goal of Rei Pelé, in 1969, also happened on the pitch of the Brazilian football temple! Maracanã underwent a major renovation for the 2014 World Cup and currently has a capacity for 78,838 fans. The stadium was modernized and today meets international safety, logistics and sustainability requirements! It is not every stadium that has seen 2 World Cup Finals! There is a lot of history here and excitement in the air. You don’t have to imagine how the world’s biggest football stars such as former players Zico, Pelé and Garrincha feel here, you can feel it too.
