Forget the tourist side of Athens and discover Peristeri through its basketball culture.
We’ll meet in central Athens and make our way to Peristeri, where we’ll begin with a walk through the heart of the neighborhood. Peristeri is a lively, working-class area where everyday Greek life takes center stage. There are virtually no tourists around us — just locals going about their daily lives, meeting friends, shopping, having coffee and enjoying their neighborhood.
As we walk through the center and its pedestrian streets, I’ll introduce you to Peristeri, its character, history and everyday life, while also explaining why basketball has such a strong place in the identity of the neighborhood.
Basketball is deeply connected to Peristeri, and I know this side of the neighborhood from personal experience. I grew up playing in Peristeri BC’s academies and on the club’s outdoor courts. From U17 onwards, I played my games in the main arena — the very same court where we will watch the men’s team play.
Peristeri BC is one of the historic names in Greek basketball, with a long tradition in the sport and one of the most respected youth academies in Greece. The connection between the club and the neighborhood is something you can feel throughout Peristeri.
Before tip-off, we’ll have time to walk around the area near the arena, take in the local matchday atmosphere and see the neighborhood getting ready for the game.
Then it’s time for the main event.
Our seats will be centrally located, giving you a great view of the entire court. But if you’re the adventurous type and fancy getting even closer to the action, I may have a little local trick up my sleeve… We might even find ourselves right behind the courtside seats! 😉
From there, you’ll be incredibly close to the action — close enough to really feel the intensity of Greek basketball, hear the players and coaches, and experience the game from a completely different perspective.
This is not simply a ticket to a basketball game. It’s a chance to discover a genuine Athens neighborhood, understand the basketball culture that is deeply rooted in Peristeri, and experience Peristeri BC from the perspective of someone who grew up playing in its academies and on the same court where the professional team plays today.
Whether you are a passionate basketball fan, curious about Greek basketball, or simply looking for an authentic experience away from the usual tourist attractions, come and experience Peristeri — where basketball is part of the neighborhood’s identity.
