San Sebastián Horse Racing Experience: Belle Époque Tour & Race Day at Lasarte

Step into the golden age of San Sebastián and discover a side of the city few visitors ever see.

This unique experience blends history, culture, and live sport to tell the story of how San Sebastián became one of Europe’s most elegant seaside destinations — and why horse racing played a key role in that transformation.

We begin with a guided walking tour through the city, visiting the locations where the first equestrian events and early racecourses took place. From the experimental races at Zubimusu to the vibrant sporting life of Ondarreta and the royal influence around Miramar Palace, you’ll uncover how the city evolved into a Playground for aristocracy and high society.

Along the way, we pause for a drink in a classic venue, recreating the social ritual that surrounded race days during the Belle Époque.

We then take a local train (Topo) to Lasarte, home to the San Sebastián Hippodrome, where the story comes alive. Before the races begin, you’ll learn how to read a racecard, understand the basics of betting, and gain insider knowledge about how races actually work.

Finally, enjoy the live races with expert guidance — not just watching, but truly understanding the strategy, atmosphere, and excitement of the turf.

This is not just a day at the races. It’s a journey into the social history of a city built around spectacle.
