We’ll meet at the Athletic Club store on Mazarredo Avenue, right in the heart of Bilbao. A perfect starting point to get to know each other, set the scene, and begin our journey into the city’s football soul.

San Mamés is more than a stadium — it’s a symbol. Here we’ll talk about the old and the new San Mamés, legendary matches, unique traditions, and why this ground represents the heart and identity of Bilbao.
Crossing the river, we reach the home of SD Deusto’s ‘Tomateros’, a local club that, during its merger with the University of Deusto team, became the first ‘university’ club to earn promotion to Spain’s national football divisions in the 1950s.
Once the most important football ground in the area, Lamiaco tells the story of early Basque football, massive crowds and intense rivalries. Even without a stadium today, this place remains a key chapter in Bilbao’s early football history.
At Gobela, we step into the world of one of Spain’s great historic clubs. This is where we explore early championships, classic rivalries and the contrast between different social and cultural visions of football.
Our final stop takes us to Fadura, with its iconic chalet tucked between the stands, to discover CD Getxo. As a modest local club, it has occasionally been mistaken for its much more prominent neighbour, Arenas Club.
We return to San Mamés to close the circle. With the journey complete, this final stop brings together everything we’ve seen — from football’s arrival in Bilbao to the living legacy that still defines the city today.
